SICK helps Billy Elliot take flight

Dutch production company Stage Entertainment continues its successful series, earning three musical prizes for “Billy Elliot – The Musical”. Silicon Theatre Scenery (STS), based in De Kwakel, Netherlands and the company put in charge of the theater equipment, also contributed to this success. The showpiece of STS is called “Hempy”. “This is the machine that allows Billy Elliot to fly while dancing. Encoders and motor feedback systems from SICK determine, check and monitor the position of all the scenery parts and lifting/lowering equipment. Continue reading

In the footsteps of the “Third Man”: 2D laser scanners go underground

Pilotprojekt Hongkong_LMS_1_teaser

Chasing the bad guy through Vienna’s sewer system in the famous 1949 movie “The Third Man” may have been a good plot then; today’s municipalities face a more subtle threat: the deterioration of aging sewage systems. The Canadian enterprise AquaCoustic Inc. uses SICK’s LMS111 outdoor 2D laser scanners to check sewers for damage and to map infrastructures built long before the digital age. Continue reading

Fast, flexible, efficient

Large portfolio in tissue production

Photoelectric proximity sensors from various product families, fiber-optic sensors, inductive proximity sensors, laser sensors, and safety locking devices – SICK sensor technology plays a crucial role in Flowtos tissue machines from Winkler+Dünnebier. High detection quality, simple integration, incorporation of custom requirements, successful cooperation over many years, and close consultation with SICK right from the design phase were the main reasons why this engineering company opted to buy all the devices it needed from a single source. Automated guidance made easy

Automated guided vehicles (AGVs) are used for moving materials and equipment, and operate without a driver on board. Using an automatic control system, they supply product lines and transport goods between different production areas. The Brazilian AGV specialist SINOVA opted for navigation scanners from SICK with which e.g the route of the vehicles can be changed easily and flexibly. Continue reading

Distance sensors in intralogistics

Positioning storage and retrieval devices accurate to a millimeter

With respect to long travel distances of aisle stackers in conjunction with safe speed monitoring, it is essential to ensure steady, fast, and above all, low-noise output of measured values to the controller. No problem for the DL100 Pro distance sensors which are used on the storage and retrieval devices at TGW Logistics Group. Continue reading
